If Democrats were hoping that President Donald Trump made a New Year’s resolution to give up Twitter, they must be sorely disappointed.
Trump started 2018 with a social media flourish, sending tweets calling for Department of Justice investigations into former FBI Director James Comey and longtime Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin.
But one tweet in particular has Trump’s enemies up in arms.
Iranian protesters have taken to the streets in recent days, calling for reforms in a nation that is racked by corruption and ties to terrorism.
And Trump accused former President Barack Obama of supporting Iran’s terror agenda.
While that may rub liberals the wrong way, the fact is, Trump is absolutely right.
And the proof is overwhelming.
“All of the money that President Obama so foolishly gave [Iran] went into terrorism and into their ‘pockets,’” Trump wrote.
Did Obama actively support the brutal Iranian regime and the terror groups it funds? In a word, yes.
First, Obama helped unfreeze billions in Iranian assets as part of an ill-fated 2015 nuclear deal that appears to have done nothing to curb Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
And, ironically, that may be the LEAST offensive thing Obama did.
The Obama Administration airlifted $400 million in unmarked cash to Iran in 2016, in a move that coincided with the release of four American hostages.
At the time, Republicans in Congress accused Obama of funding a country that sponsors terrorism.
But it turns out we didn’t know half of what Obama was up to.
Late last year, a bombshell report accused the Obama Administration of stonewalling an investigation into a cocaine ring being run by the terror group Hezbollah, which is supported by Iran.
According to federal law enforcement officials, Obama and his appointees allowed Hezbollah to continue sending a fortune in cocaine into America, all to avoid upsetting the Iranian nuclear deal.
And by doing so, Obama put money directly into the pockets of an Iranian-sponsored terror organization.
It remains to be seen whether Iranian protesters will be able to win much-needed reforms in their country.
But one thing is abundantly clear – Obama played an active role in propping up the brutal Iranian regime and the shady groups it supports.
Trump was right to call him out on it – even if it leaves a bad taste in liberals’ mouths.
