Former FBI Director Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian election interference has turned into a months-long witch hunt against President Donald Trump.
Mueller has stacked his team with Democratic Party operatives and cronies of former candidate Hillary Clinton.
His probe is completely out of control, and Mueller even indicted former Trump campaign chief Paul Manafort for crimes that had nothing to do with the 2016 election.
If this no longer looks like a typical federal investigation, that’s because it isn’t.
In fact, a leading member of Congress believes that Mueller is now actively engaged in a plot that could overthrow Trump and remove him from office.
Rep. Matt Gaetz, a member of the powerful House Judiciary Committee, took to the House floor this week to warn that America is in the middle of an illegal coup d’etat.
And he wants Mueller removed from his special prosecutor post immediately.
Gaetz has introduced a formal resolution calling for Mueller to resign or be fired.
“We are at risk of a coup d’état in this country if we allow an unaccountable person with no oversight to undermine the duly-elected president of the United States,” Gaetz said in a fiery House speech. “That is precisely what is happening right now with the indisputable conflicts of interest that are present with Mr. Mueller and others at the Department of Justice.”
Gaetz and others in Congress are particularly troubled by Mueller’s deep ties to Clinton and the Obama Administration, and Mueller’s role in the infamous Uranium One scandal.
A group consisting of Clinton approved the sale of U.S. uranium interests to a Russian firm in 2010. But that firm was under investigation for corruption by the FBI, headed by Mueller at the time.
Reports detailing that investigation disappeared and were swept under the rug for years, raising major questions about Mueller’s role.
“These deeply troubling events took place when Mr. Mueller was the director of the FBI,” Gaetz said. “As such, his impartiality is hopelessly compromised. He must step down immediately.”
In other words, Mueller is looking more and more like a partisan hack – and not an objective investigator. And the way Mueller has conducted his probe so far has done little to allay those fears.
Instead, Gaetz wants the federal government to dedicate its resources to investigating the Uranium One deal and the Clinton Foundation, which received donations connected to the Russian nuclear industry while the deal was under consideration.
Mueller is reportedly set to announce a new round of indictments soon. But he has little credibility left – and introducing more charges in this ongoing witch hunt is unlikely to change that.
