Remember when former President Barack Obama claimed that there were no scandals under his administration?
He’d conveniently forgotten about Benghazi… or the Fast and Furious gun fiasco… or the pallets of unmarked cash he sent to Iran.
Now, another scandal that Obama refuses to admit is leaving American taxpayers on the hook for $3.5 million.
Thanks again, Obama!
A federal judge this week approved a $3.5 million settlement for Tea Party groups that were unfairly (and illegally) targeted by the Obama-era Internal Revenue Service.
Former IRS executive Lois Lerner resigned in disgrace in 2013 amid allegations that her office refused tax-exempt status for conservative groups, delayed their tax-exempt status to hinder their participation in the 2012 elections, and slapped the groups with onerous audits.
Lerner was later held in Contempt of Congress.
While Lerner became the scapegoat for the scandal, Obama and his cronies had their fingerprints all over it.
In fact, the Obama Administration refused to prosecute Lerner or any other IRS official for targeting conservative groups.
But the federal courts aren’t letting the IRS off the hook so easily.
U.S. District Judge Michael Barrett approved the settlement in a class-action case that involved hundreds of Tea Party groups. The deal will be finalized in Cincinnati on July 10.
But it’s a bitter pill for American taxpayers who will have to shell out the $3.5 million to cover up another one of Obama’s messes.
With a reported net worth of $40 million and climbing) maybe Obama could kick in the cash and spare us the hassle.
But first he’d have to admit that the scandal actually happened.
Good luck with that.
